Celia Paul is a figure and portrait painter and draughtsman. Born in Trivandrum, India from 1976–81 Paul attended the Slade School of Fine Art. As well as an artist in her own right for many years she was a model for and muse of Lucien Freud.
Group exhibitions included The School of London: Works on Paper, at Odette Gilbert Gallery, 1989; Contemporary Art Society Market, Royal Festival Hall, 1994; Art95, The Museum of Women’s Art exhibition, Business Design Centre, 1995. Had a solo show at Bernard Jacobson Gallery, 1986, showing with Marlborough Fine Art from 1991. There was an exhibition at Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Kendal, in 2004. British Museum, Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, Saatchi Collection and Metropolitan Museum, New York, hold examples of her work.
